National Fertiliser Database Update

In late July, the Veterinary Medicinal Products, Medicated Feed, and Fertilisers Regulation Act 2023 was signed into law, mandating registration for all merchants, co-ops, and farmers. Without registration, the sale or purchase of fertiliser, including lime, is prohibited.

The national fertiliser database (NFD) introduces two classifications: ‘Fertiliser Economic Operators’ (covering manufacturers, blenders, merchants, and importers) and ‘Professional Fertiliser End Users’ (which includes farmers, landscape gardeners, and sports clubs).

In effect since September 1st, any farmer or other professional fertiliser end user intending to buy fertiliser or lime must register as a ‘professional fertiliser end user’ with the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine via Agfood. Alongside the database registration, professional end users are obligated to declare closing stocks.

Implementation Timeline Update

While many of the implementation deadlines have already transpired, attention is now directed to the upcoming December 15th deadline.

On this date: Fertiliser Economic Operators are required to submit sales data for September, October, and November 2023 to the National Fertiliser Database.

Additionally, Fertiliser Economic Operators must ensure the submission of December 2023 sales data. Monthly sales data from December 1, 2023, needs to be submitted by the 15th of the subsequent month.
